Pimps in Rhode Island Get Bitchslapped

Image
Addressing what he calls an unjust result of current law, Sen. Frank S. Lombardi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston), in cooperation with the Office of the Attorney General, introduced legislation to help law enforcement target pimps and others who derive proceeds from pandering or permitting prostitution in the state. The legislation,  2014-S 2820 , was passed May 7th by the Senate and now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration. Under current law, those convicted of prostitution have been subject to forfeiture of any assets received due to their unlawful acts. But those who induce or allow another to provide those services have not been subject to the forfeiture of proceeds that result from the unlawful activity. The legislation will strike the forfeiture provision from law as it applies to prostitutes, and will add the forfeiture provision to the law dealing with “pimps,” or, as the law describes them, "individuals who by any promise or threat, by ab...

NBA Bans Donald Sterling for Life, Imposes $2.5M Fine

Image
By COLLEEN CURRY Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned for life and fined $2.5 million today by the NBA after he was recorded making racist comments about African-Americans. "Effective immediately, I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers organization or the NBA," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver during a news conference in New York. Silver also said he would immediately recommend to the NBA Board of Governors that they force a sale of the Clippers and that he would do "everything in [his] power to ensure that happens." NBA players and officials -- including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Steve Nash, and Players Association president Kevin Johnson -- applauded the decision from Los Angeles.  NBA Players Association Vice President Roger Mason said that players across the league had made it clear they were willing to boycott the playoffs if the NBA didn't take swift, decisive action again...

NAACP Willing to 'Forgive' Clippers' Donald Sterling After Yanking Award

Image
The NAACP said today they are still willing to work with Los Angeles Clippers' owner Donald Sterling despite yanking an offer of a lifetime achievement award over an audio tape containing racist comments that Sterling allegedly made. At a news conference today, NAACP Los Angeles president Leon Jenkins said that an audio recording that surfaced this weekend on TMZ, which purportedly had Sterling's voice recorded making racist comments, was "devastating." But the organization would be open to talking to Sterling, with whom they've worked for nearly 20 years. "God teaches us to forgive, and the way I look at it, after a sustained period of proof to the African American community that those words don't reflect his heart, I think there's room for forgiveness. I wouldn't be a Christian if I said there wasn't," Jenkins said. "We are negotiating with him about giving more moneys to African American students at UCL...

L.A. Clipper's Owner Donald Sterling: What He Said and What He Meant

Image
I'm not surprised at the comments made my the Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. But I am surprised at how a lot of Black people are responding. Unfortunately, Black people seem to me hung up on being loved by racists, and will do anything to get that false sense of love from a bunch of fools who don't matter, and are just a few years from dying off and and out anyway. One of the problems with the whole Donald Sterling thing is that Mr. Sterling is not a white man. He's a piece of crap. Let's get that clear right now. The dictionary can explain further, if you need to know. IT BOTHERS ME A LOT THAT YOU WANT TO BROADCAST THAT YOU'RE ASSOCIATING WITH BLACK PEOPLE What Donald meant when he made this comment was: " Please don't show the world what a lot of women dating or married to white men really desire: black men". (When his girlfriend told him that he, himself associates with Black people, he replies) I'M NOT YOU, AND YOU'...

Donald Sterling says his girlfriend should not publicize her friendship with Magic Johnson or other minorities: "It bothers me a lot if you want to broadcast that you are associating with black people."   Los Angeles Clippers owner  Donald Sterling has been caught on tape telling his girlfriend not to publicly associate with minorities or to bring them to his games. In nine minutes of audio obtained by TMZ , the team owner and real estate mogul is heard in an argument with girlfriend V. Stiviano over her friendships with minorities, particularly Johnson. The spat was apparently sparked after Stiviano posted a photo of herself with Johnson on Instagram. (Stiviano is of African-American and Mexican descent.) Sterling asked why she was "broadcasting" her associations with minorities via pictures on social media, saying she should keep such things private.
