What are the Symptoms of High Blood Pressure?

Image
The myth of symptoms There's a common misconception that people with high blood pressure , also called HBP or hypertension, will experience symptoms such as nervousness, sweating, difficulty sleeping or facial flushing. The truth is that HBP is largely a symptomless condition. If you ignore your blood pressure because you think symptoms will alert you to the problem, you are taking a dangerous chance with your life. Everybody needs to know their blood pressure numbers, and everyone needs to prevent high blood pressure from developing. The myth of symptomatic headaches The best evidence indicates that high blood pressure does not cause headaches except perhaps in the case of hypertensive crisis (systolic/top number higher than 180 OR diastolic/bottom number higher than 110). In the early 1900s, it was assumed that headaches were more common among people with high blood pressure. However, research into the subject doesn't support this view. According to one

How to Make Numbness in Your Mouth Go Away After Seeing a Dentist

Image
By Constance Barker Numbness in the mouth after seeing the dentist is annoying. It can make drinking, eating or talking difficult. Numbness may last up to three to five hours after leaving the dentist depending on the amount of local anesthesia administered. However, there are ways to shorten numbness in the mouth following a trip to the dentist. Step 1: Stimulating blood flow in the area of the injection can help your body clear the anesthesia from your bloodstream faster. Massaging the area where you're experiencing the numbness is one way to stimulate blood flow. Take caution to not rub vigorously as that can cause damage to the numbed area of your face because you might not be able to feel how hard you are rubbing. And before massaging your face, ask your dentist if this could cause any additional pain or swelling, or interfere with dental work you just had done. Massage the area around your mouth. Bill Cosby Co-Star Tony Winner Phylicia Rashad Speaks Out in Defense of Bill Cosby

Image
EXCLUSIVE A reporter ran into Tony winner Phylicia Rashad yesterday at Paramount’s super elegant lunch for the movie “Selma” at the Metropolitan Club. Rashad co-starred with Bill Cosby for 12 years as his TV wife– first on “The Cosby Show” and then on its sequel “Cosby” featuring Madeline Kahn. She will always be Claire Huxtable, wife of Dr. Cliff, and mother of the Huxtable family. No one knows Cosby better than the soft spoken, smart, articulate Rashad. So far she has not said a word about the scandal that has engulfed Cosby and is systematically destroying his 50 year career and reputation. So far. Now, as the extraordinary “Selma” lunch– which featured a brilliant performance by Common and John Legend of their theme song, “Glory”– Rashad and I had a talk about Cosby. No less than Harry Belafonte and Ruben Santiago Hudson were hovering above us as we chatted. Let’s make something clear. Rashad, who is one of our greatest stage actresses, has kept quiet, didn

But the assault didn’t stop there. Doherty then began chasing the driver around the vehicle.  In a fit of despair, the driver reportedly flagged down an African-American motorist for help. Jouett, who was off-duty and not in uniform, is seen talking to his wife and holding a box in one hand while apparently trying to adjust his pants or shirt. At one point, Jouett pulls out his police-issued .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun, looks at it then attempts to put it back into his holster. "He was transitioning the holster and transitioning the gun out of his holster. He was going to carry it in his hand as they walked to the car," Cincinnati Capt. Michael John told WLWT. " As he was pulling the gun from the holster, a round discharged, ricocheted in the elevator, struck him in the stomach ."

Credit Edwin Torres for The New York Times Two plainclothes New York City police officers were shot in the Bronx on Monday night after they tried to stop a car, the police said. One officer was shot in the back, and another officer was shot in the arm, police officials said. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening. A manhunt was underway for at least two assailants, said Chief Kim Y. Royster, a Police Department spokeswoman. A gun was recovered at the scene, she said, but it was not immediately clear if it belonged to either of the assailants. She said that the officers were not targeted by the gunman — as occurred in the fatal Dec. 20 shooting of two officers in their patrol car in Brooklyn — but instead appeared to have been investigating a robbery when the shooti
