A fight broke out after a Milwaukee County judge sentenced 23-year-old Dedrick Ashford to one year in prison and one year of extended supervision on Wednesday, November 28th. Ashford pleaded guilty to driving without a license causing death — specifically the death of six-year-old Christopher Wade Jr. near 51st and Meinecke in April. Members of Wade’s family asked the court for the stiffest penalty possible for Ashford. “The day Dedrick took him from me, he took away more than just my child, he took away my life,” said one family member. “I take responsibility for my actions. So hopefully that go a long way,” said Ashford. Ashford’s plea and the circumstances surrounding Wade’s death led to the one-year prison sentence. Immediately after the sentencing on Wednesday, dozens of family members of the victim began yelling out, stood up and stormed out of the courtroom. Joe Jackson, the 83-year-old patriarch of the Jackson family , is recovering at a Las Vegas hospital from a mild stroke he suffered Wednesday. “He’s fine,” family friend Rutt Premsrirut said. “He’s back to the regular Joe Jackson, cracking jokes and talking.” Flowers arrived from Jackson’s daughters Janet and LaToya, and his wife, Katherine, was en route to Las Vegas from her home in Los Angeles, according to Premsrirut. Angel Howansky, a Los Angeles-based family spokeswoman, said Jackson was at an unidentified hospital after having trouble standing up and walking. On Thursday, Hillary Clinton unveiled a new “blueprint” guide to wiping out the AIDS virus globally, and aiming for “an AIDS-free generation.” The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief will focus on improving treatment and prevention worldwide. The secretary of state applauded a massive decrease in AIDS-related deaths (25 percent in six years), an increase in U.S.-funded antiretroviral drug treatments, and huge drop in HIV infections in developing countries. “We can reach a point where virtually no children are born with the virus,” she said. Condom manufacturer uses social media to spread awareness and protection by Janel Martinez (Image: Durex) In honor of the 25 th anniversary of World AIDS Day, Durex has launched a social media/marketing campaign, #1share1condom, to raise awareness about AIDS prevention. Since the start of the campaign, which began on Monday and runs through Saturday, the condom manufacturer donated over 900,000 condoms. PCMag.com reports that “Durex has promised to donate one condom for every user who tweets a message about HIV and AIDS using the #1share1condom hashtag.” The prophylactic company will also contribute one condom to global and local charities that share its mission of fighting HIV-transmission such as dance4life for every user who shares the Durex World AIDS Day image and video found on the Durex Facebook page . Four Hofstra University basketball players were arrested on burglary charges stemming from six break-ins of six campus dormitory rooms, police said Friday. The arrested players were Kentrell Washington, 18, of Las Vegas; Jimmy Hall, 18, of Brooklyn; Dallas Anglin, 18, of Montclair, N.J.; and Shaquille Stokes, 20, of Manhattan. Hall, a freshman, is the team’s No. 2 scorer. He and Stokes, a sophomore, started in six of the team’s seven games this season. Washington and Anglin, both freshmen, have seen regular playing time off the bench. In a statement, the university said the four had been suspended from the basketball team, classes, residence halls and facilities, pending the outcome of the case. A weeks-long investigation ended with a small town Kentucky Mayor in handcuffs! Making matters worse for Olive Hill mayor Danny Sparks was the fact that the undercover buy took place in the parking lot of an elementary school. Police noted in their report that another man was also detained, and that this man had an ongoing “personal relationship” with Sparks. R&B artist Ryan Leslie is singing the blues now that he’s been ordered to dish out $1million to a German man who returned his stolen laptop. The decision came down from a New York judge on Wednesday, ending a two-year legal battle with the German man who brought it back to him. Leslie was desperate to find the computer and an external hard drive stolen from him in 2010, which he said contained several ‘in development’ tracks he was working on. He made a YouTube plea, urging anybody who finds the laptop to hand it in and receive a $1million reward . But when German auto shop proprietor Armin Augstein turned up with the laptop, Leslie reneged on the deal, after he couldn’t access the songs on the hard drive. Augstein took him to court, and Judge Harold Baer Jr. ruled that since Leslie returned the hard drive to the computer company to have it wiped of its contents, the songs were likely there as Armstein returned it. We’ve learned she was arrested at a Dallas airport for public intoxication last weekend … after allegedly raising a drunken ruckus on board an airplane. According to the police report, 46-year-old Ashenafi was arrested at DFW airport when police determined she was so drunk … she was a danger to herself and others. Sources on board the airplane tell us, Ashenafi threw a fit while everyone was boarding because she was stuck in coach … instead of first class.
