NYPD Cop Says Other Cops Racially Profiled, Assaulted And Wrongfully Arrested Him

Image
New York City, New York – According to former NYPD officer Harold Thomas, he is no longer with the police force after an incident involving a fight with 3 other officers outside of a nightclub that Thomas was leaving. Thomas believes that he was racially profiled and that the situation escalated because he was black and he was not in uniform. According to Thomas, he was approached by three white officers who stopped him because he allegedly fit the description of a “shots fired” call. He said that next he politely answered the officers questions, showed them his ID and let them know that he was also a cop. “ I showed them both my ID and said I am Detective Harold Thomas, ” he told reporters. “ [The third cop] spins me around, slams my head on the roof of my car, made a dent in the car, grabbed me by the seat of my pants, throws me head first ,” Thomas said. Thomas told reporters that more officers showed up at that point, including a lieutenant, who allegedl...

Ferguson Protesters Granted Restraining Orders To Stop Cops Using Tear Gas

Image
FERGUSON, Missouri –  A federal judge ruled Thursday that police can no longer use tear gas on protesters without declaring an illegal assembly, giving them fair warning and time to vacate the area. The temporary restraining order comes just weeks after the last rounds of heavy protest in Ferguson in response to a St. Louis County grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown Jr . A group of protesters had filed the lawsuit asking for a restriction on police use of tear gas and excessive force during demonstrations. U.S. Federal Judge Carol Jackson heard testimony for nine hours, from plaintiffs as well as police from St. Louis County and the city of St. Louis, according to Brendan Roediger, one of the lead attorney’s on the case.  “Ultimately she decided there was substantial evidence that police had violated the constitutional rights of the protesters, that it was a restriction on their free speech,” Roed...

Beverly Johnson: Bill Cosby drugged me

Image
Model Beverly Johnson is sharing her Bill Cosby story. It happened in the "mid-80s," she says in a first person essay in Vanity Fair . And it sounds similar to many of the stories we've heard from women who have been accusing the star of drugging them and then sexually assaulting them. Johnson starts by recalling being "in awe" of Cosby in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. "He was funny, smart, and even elegant—all those wonderful things many white Americans didn't associate with people of color." She was thrilled when one day an agent called her to invite her to audition for a role on The Cosby Show . She went to a taping and met Cosby. He invited her to his home. She had one pleasant visit and he invited her to come over again. That next time didn't go as smoothly. Cosby offered her a cappuccino from the espresso machine on his bar. "I told him I didn't drink coffee that late in the afternoon because it made g...

Judge in 2010 Chicago cop killing frustrated by defense 'song and dance'

Image
A Cook County judge expressed frustration Tuesday over the length of time it is taking to bring the 2010 murder of a Chicago police officer to trial, telling the defendant's attorney he was tired of the "song and dance routine." No trial date has been set for Bryant Brewer, now 28, who is accused of grabbing Chicago police Officer Thor Soderberg's gun and fatally shooting him outside an Englewood police deployment center. "This case is 4 years old," Judge Stanley Sacks told Assistant Public Defender William Wolf, a member of that office's homicide task force. "Four years is not enough time for you?" The judge gave Wolf a deadline next month by which to submit a report from the defense expert about Brewer's alleged insanity. If it is not filed on time, Brewer's lawyers won't be allowed to use the report at trial. Wolf said outside court that attorney ethics rules constrained him from responding to the judge...
