“I LAUGHED” ARETHA’S SHOCKING REACTION TO BEYONCE’S LIP-SYNCING DRAMA

(BlackMediaScoop) Aretha Franklin knows exactly what it’s like to sing at a presidential inauguration. She belted out My Country ‘Tis of Thee for President Obama’s first inauguration in 2009. And now she’s giving her take on the Beyoncé lip-syncing controversy.
Franklin tells ABC News that when she heard Beyoncé’s national anthem performance “was pre-recorded I really laughed. I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather.”

In fact, ABC notes that the temperature on Monday in Washington was around 40 degrees. Adds Franklin, “I thought it was really funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record … next time I’ll probably do the same.”
Franklin says that in 2009, she opted for a live performance because, “I wanted to give people the real thing and pre-recording never crossed my mind.”
She’s not about to denounce any artist for going that route.

“I think it’s optional really, it’s up to the artist,” Franklin says. “In 2009, I wanted everything to be live and on the real side for the moment as it actually happened. Those were my feelings for my performance, but having come face to face with 28, 22 degrees I am not surprised she pre-recorded. She wanted her performance to be what she wanted to be and she realized it wasn’t going to be the way she wanted it to be or she was going to be running a risk. That’s probably why she pre-recorded exactly how she wanted it to be heard.”
Franklin added that Kelly Clarkson, who did sing live, and also sang My Country ‘Tis of Thee, was “magnificent” as well.

Run-D.M.C. Producer Larry Smith Dead at 63

Larry Smith, producer of some of the most cherished hip-hop records of the Eighties, including Run-D.M.C. 's first two albums, died Thursday at the age of 63. Radio host Combat Jack broke the news on Twitter , writing: "Just spoke to his family. RIP Larry Smith, the original King of Beats who passed away last night." A Queens native, Smith began his career as a session musician and quickly struck up a partnership with Kurtis Blow after playing bass on "Christmas Rappin'."  Smith would continue to play on a number of Blow's tracks, co-writing a few as well, including the MC's breakthrough record, "The Breaks,"  which became the first rap record to be certified gold. Smith then began working with Blow's manager at the time, Russell Simmons. The two co-produced a handful of tracks for Jimmy Spicer – including the oft-sampled "Money (Dollar Bill Y'All)"  – before helping make hip-hop history with Run-D.M.C.'s
