TARGET APOLOGIZES FOR ANNIE AD

Strength in numbers has force the hand of Target Stores after 14,000+ signatures from supporters of various races and ages demanded an apology from the company for misleading advertisement about an Annie dress ad. These voices asked for Target to take a look at their marketing strategies and ways that a lack of diversity could disappoint consumers- it did not fall on deaf ears. Below is the email that was received from Guest Relations:

Hello DR. LASEAN RINIQUE SHELTON,

My name is Charlene and I work in Target’s Guest Relations department. I wanted to follow-up on behalf of Target on your email.

We’re sorry that you’re disappointed with our marketing of the Annie for Target collection. We want all guests to feel great about their decision to shop at Target, and we’re sorry if we let you and your daughter down.

We value the opportunity to hear directly from our guests, including what they like and what they don’t. We take your feedback seriously and our teams will keep it top of mind as we move forward.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your input. Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Charlene
Target Guest Relations

When first confronted with the diversity issues, Target first refused to apologize. We reached out to Target inquiring if they would change the Annie ads going forward, but Target did not respond.
