Lil Wayne Joins Zulu Nation and What it Means to Hip Hop Culture

Image
Lately, I have seen a lot of talk on Social Media about the rapper Lil’ Wayne joining our beloved Universal Zulu Nation. As you know, the Zulu Nation is 41 years old as of November 2014 and HipHop Culture is 40 years old. Our Culture is evolving and our organization is always welcoming to those willing to get on the grind with us in continuing our work to push forth this Culture using the four spiritual principles of Peace, Unity, Love and Having Fun. For those who have made negative comments about our Nation and who are sitting on the sidelines thinking we will change the way we represent HipHop because of one new member, you are sadly mistaken. Bear in mind that ‘Rap is something you do, HipHop is how you live.’ Lil’ Wayne understands that this is something bigger than him. He may not compromise some of his lyrics on some of his songs. But he will promote the Culture that we represent with our pillars as the foundation. If you have studied your history, you would know h...

Marion Barry, Former DC Mayor, Dies at 78

Image
Marion Barry, an icon of D.C. politics good and bad for more than 40 years, has died at age 78. "It is with deep regret that the family of former four-time D.C. Mayor, and Ward 8 City Councilman, Marion S. Barry, Jr., announces that he has passed," read a statement early Sunday from Barry's family. Barry had been hospitalized at Howard University Hospital Thursday after complaining of a urinary tract infection. He was released Saturday, and family members said he seemed to feel well. "In his own words, he was 'fantabulous' -- his words, not mine," said Barry spokeswoman LaToya Foster at an early-morning press conference at United Medical Center. Sunday morning, Barry visited with his son, Christopher, and then stopped to eat. On his way back into his home from the car, Barry collapsed. His driver brought him inside the home, unresponsive. Barry was taken to United Medical Center at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, and was pronounced ...

10 Illegal Police Actions to Watch for in Ferguson

Image
When the Michael Brown verdict is announced, people can expect the police to take at least 10 different illegal actions to prevent people from exercising their constitutional rights. The Ferguson police have been on TV more than others so people can see how awful they have been acting. But their illegal police tactics are unfortunately quite commonly used by other law enforcement in big protests across the U.S. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution promises the government will not abridge freedom of speech or to prevent the right of the people to peaceably assemble or to petition to the government for the redress of grievances. Here is what they are may do; watch for each of these illegal actions when the crowds start to grow. 1. Try to stop people from protesting. The police all say they know they have to let people protest. So they usually will allow protests for a while. Then the police will get tired and impatient and try to stop people from continui...

High School teacher obtains restraining order against student

WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — A Westerly High School teacher has obtained a temporary restraining order against a student accused by officials of threatening to hurt her and “shoot up the school.” The Westerly Sun reports that the student also is forbidden from school grounds. Maryjane Utley, head of the Westerly High School Science Department, obtained the restraining order on Friday against the unidentified male student. He had been suspended twice for alleged threats against the school and Utley. Utley’s lawyer, Michael Lynch, said district and school administrators failed to immediately provide Utley with details. He also said the administration failed to notify other teachers or the parents of the students who heard the threats. School officials say they worked closely with Westerly police and followed School Committee policies.
