DID YOU GET UNEMPLOYMENT? YOU MAY HAVE TO PAY IT BACK!

Oh snap! If you were one of the millions who received federal unemployment benefits in 2011, you may be asked to pay some of that money back.
A new report from the U.S. Department of Labor found the federal government overpaid recipients by $14 billion in 2011, which means 11% of the checks that were sent out contained too much money, were sent to the wrong person, or were sent to an ineligible recipient.

Indiana had the highest overpayment rate at 43%. Kentucky had the lowest at 4.4%.

People who were overpaid benefits likely fall into three categories: They received a check even if they were not actively searching for a job; they received a check even if they had quit or been fired from their previous job; or they had already found a new job but continued to collect unemployment benefits.

Those who were overpaid will likely receive a letter in the mail asking them to repay the money.

Does this affect you? Will you pay it back?
