“THIS MAN BEATS WOMEN” CHRIS BROWN CD TAGGED WITH UGLY LABEL

There’s nothing out of the ordinary about an explicit lyrics advisory on a Chris Brown record.
But shoppers at HMV record stores in London found the singer’s latest CD Fortune covered in a very different kind of warning label, as first reported by Gigwise.
Thought to be the work of anonymous anti-domestic violence activists, the yellow stickers read, “Warning: Do NOT buy this album! This man beats women.”


Brown has been dodging those kinds of allegations since the 2009 incident in which the singer beat his then-girlfriend Rihanna before the Grammys ceremony. The two have made several shows of reconciliation lately, including a public kiss and embrace at the MTV VIdeo Music Awards.
But the unveiling of Brown’s new neck tattoo has left many people wondering what the singer could have been thinking. The image looks like that of a battered woman’s face — though a rep for Brown says the image is actually that of a Mexican sugar skull, a Day of the Dead symbol the singer found in a Mac cosmetics ad and asked a tattoo artist to recreate.

It’s unclear if this latest controversy is at all connected to the warning labels that surfaced at HMV.

Brown appeared at the Jenesse Center in Los Angeles recently, a non-profit group that specializes in domestic violence intervention and prevention, where he was photographed handing out ice cream to young victims of domestic abuse.

Run-D.M.C. Producer Larry Smith Dead at 63

Larry Smith, producer of some of the most cherished hip-hop records of the Eighties, including Run-D.M.C. 's first two albums, died Thursday at the age of 63. Radio host Combat Jack broke the news on Twitter , writing: "Just spoke to his family. RIP Larry Smith, the original King of Beats who passed away last night." A Queens native, Smith began his career as a session musician and quickly struck up a partnership with Kurtis Blow after playing bass on "Christmas Rappin'."  Smith would continue to play on a number of Blow's tracks, co-writing a few as well, including the MC's breakthrough record, "The Breaks,"  which became the first rap record to be certified gold. Smith then began working with Blow's manager at the time, Russell Simmons.
