DRUNK FOOL SHOOTS INNOCENT MAN OVER A WOMAN

Jason Lewis was at the counter of the Country House Diner in Clinton Hill, NY about 5 a.m. when a drunken Tyrone Gainer started grabbing Lewis’ girlfriend, witnesses said. She said something to Gainer and then Lewis, 34, intervened.

Gainer, 27, smacked Lewis in the face. “Why’d you smack me?” Lewis demanded. “We don’t have to shed blood for this.”

Gainer apparently disagreed, whipping out a .22-caliber handgun and ending the argument with senseless violence.
Police responded but it was too late. “He just put the gun to his heart and pulled the trigger,” said Hakim Abdel, owner of the Fulton St. eatery. “Two seconds — it just took two seconds.”

Lewis, who lived in Bedford-Stuyvesant less than a mile from the diner, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital Center, but couldn’t be saved.

Police collared Gainer and charged him with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm. His prior arrests include one for menacing a police officer, and a tampering with evidence charge.

A woman who was with him at the diner, who has not been named, is a 911 operator, sources said. “I’ve known him for 20 years,” Abdel said of his slain customer. “He’s very quiet, one of the best people you’ll ever meet in life, one of the most humble.” Witnesses claim Lewis did his best not to have the night end with any yellow police tape.

Lewis, a father of three, owned a fleet of dollar vans, friends said. “He wasn’t someone causing trouble,” said pal Randy Montgomery, 42. “He picked his kids up from school every day. He took care of his family.”

There have been five murders in the city this year. Last year, there were 418 — the lowest since reliable records were kept.
