Drunk grandmother arrested for making 10-year-old drive her home
If you're going to be doing some drinking,
it's a very good idea to designate a sober driver. But not just any
sober driver. A sober driver who can see over the steering wheel because
he is of legal driving age is ideally what you should be looking for.
This bit of common knowledge failed to
register with two Louisiana women who spent a night knocking back
beverages and then appointing a 10-year-old to drive their SUV home.
Police were told by a witnesses about an SUV
driving very slowly on a major highway, swerving in and out of the
lanes, at about 1 a.m. Wednesday, the Times-Picayune reported.
They suspected an impaired driver, pulled
the vehicle over and found a young boy in the driver's seat.
Along for the ride was the boy's
grandmother, Brenda Byrd, 54, and Sheila Joiner, 48, both of Kenner,
Louisiana.
The boy's 15-year-old brother was also in the vehicle.
When asked why a child was at the wheel, the
women said they told him he had to drive them home because they were
drunk.
Both women were arrested and charged with
contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and allowing an unlicensed
driver to operate a motor vehicle.
