HBCU STUDENT KILLED AT BLOCK PARTY
A Tuskegee University student who was shot to death at an
unauthorized block party Friday night was a new father with a baby less
than a month old, friends say.
The victim, 21-year-old Bobby “BJ” Smith of Atlanta, Georgia was shot in the back. He was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The party was taking place on East Church Street in Tuskegee between the parking lot of the Macon Co. Department of Human Resources and Deville Apartments.
“The Tuskegee University community is mourning the unfortunate loss of one of our own,” said Tuskegee University President Gilbert L. Rochon. “We are all deeply affected by this terrible incident. Our prayers and condolences are with the [Smith] family…”
Smith was a senior finance major at Tuskegee and was an athlete on the tennis team. A vigil was held remember him Saturday night at the tennis courts. Smith’s body has been turned over to the Alabama
Department of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy has already been performed.
The Tuskegee Police Department and Alabama Bureau of Investigations are still looking for suspect. No motive is currently known.
Let’s keep him family and newborn baby in our prayers.
