2 year old dies after falling from Dorchester daycare building

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The mother of 2-year-old child boy who died after falling from a building in Boston is blaming the woman who runs the daycare center on the first floor of that building for his death.

Boston police say the incident happened at 129 Columbia Road in Dorchester.

The boy, Daylan Walker, was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 10:40 a.m.

The child was attending a daycare facility run out of an apartment on the first floor of the building, and investigators are looking into how Daylan wandered from the first floor to the fourth floor and onto the roof.

Daylan's mother, Leonela Rivera, said Daylan loved to play with cars, and that he was not the type of child to wander off alone.

"He would never step outside without our permission," she said.

Parents whose children attend the daycare were notified of the death and told to pick their children up. Many appeared visibly upset over the news.

"I feel sad sad that a child lost his life," one parent said outside the building.

The daycare is run by Marisol Rondon-Ramos. Her business was licensed in 2006 and renewed in April 2013. The daycare is listed as licensed to care for six children. Officials told FOX 25 they don't believe the death came from an issue of the daycare being over capacity.

“The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) was notified today of a tragic incident involving a child attending a licensed child care program in Dorchester," a statement from the department read. "EEC is investigating this incident in close coordination with the local police department and the Department of Children and Families.  EEC takes its role in assuring the safety of young children very seriously, and will take decisive action if any wrongdoing or negligence on the part of this provider is determined.”

Rivera blames Rondon-Ramos for her son's death.

"She took everything from me," Rivera said.

Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson told reporters that Daylan was unattended at the daycare and made his way up to the roof.

As of Wednesday night, police were investigating and had not made any arrests related to the case.
