Who Stole The Soul? Boston DJ's Successful Event Highjacked

The Reggae community, who has followed the legendary Deejay Junior Rodigan since the eighties, has depended on the legendary deejay to provide peaceful, entertaining events at various nightclubs and concert halls throughout New England. They say imitation is a form of flattery, but this is not the case with an event scheduled for November 8th entitled “Trinidad Meets Barbados.” In fact, the promoters, Lion Entertainment have been accused by Rodigan and thousands of Rodigan supporters for blatant misrepresentation, fraud and false advertising.

“This is what we call ‘biting”, says party-goer Phillip Richards of Brockton, a supporter of Rodigan who has attended what he says are ‘hundreds’ of Rodigans events, including the event in question.

Junior Rodigan is the creator of this original event, and has promoted it in 2011 and 2012. Three Stripes Media caught up with the deejay, who has not bitten his tongue about Lion Entertainment’s “STEALING an event that I promoted for TWO YEARS in 2011 and 2012 and made a success. Last year he HIJACKED it .... but didn't have his name on the flyer as promoter. This year he is making it look like it was HIS event all the while... by using words like in his pitch: “come and support this SIGNATURE ANNUAL EVENT"

Die hard Rodigan supporters have vowed to boycott the event and have promised not to attend. They say their loyalty is to Junior Rodigan and his community-based events that have represented Reggae Culture and music for years. Lion Entertainment has not commented on this issue.

    Loyalty is for sale ... and Lion Ent knows it ...
    First he TRICKED the DJ's whom I booked for this event in 2011 and 2012 and that is how he HIJACKED the event in 2013
    This year, I did my best to make it impossible for him to do so.
    I booked the DJ's in the Spring / Summer ... but THREE OF THEM decided to CANCEL the booking in JULY (after having confirmed it with me!!! )

    The reason they did this is nothing new. Its a familiar tactic to threaten a DJ who is unwilling to work. They were told, if they don't work on this gig, they can forget the 6-7 gigs that LION ENT. was going to book them for in 2015 and beyond.

    And THIS IS WHY .... we see them on an event with the SAME NAME for the 2nd year ...

    but my issue is this : this time, its FREE ADMISSION ... and they KNEW about it ...

    This is the reason why I sent them each a text which said :

    " I want to tell you DIRECTLY, so there is no confusion. What LION ENT is doing is WRONG and you know it. By agreeing to take part in a FREE EVENT you are supporting this and helping in its success. I just want to let you know, I am not stupid and I will NEVER forget this . Have a good day "

    For clarification ... this is a 100% SOCA event. Not REGGAE.
    I have NOT kept Thousands of events as a promoter. I have been a DJ on thousands. LOL
    But whatever the number may be ..... events I promote under the name BIG UP MEDIA have been presented with the integrity, professionalism and appeal that you would expect from a professional promoter.

    Boston people are VERY UNINFORMED when it comes to many things.
    They see a popular event advertised for FREE, they won't care about the details. They will choose to save $20 and party free of charge. I don't blame them.

    But I DO BLAME THOSE DJ's and SOUND SYSTEMS WHO KNOW this event is being done with the SOLE PURPOSE of intimidating the originator of it ... and STILL choose to provide their services to make the event possible . The aim is to make me give up on it, so that it can become an annual profitable event for the THEIF ....

    I am sorry but if I give in to this form of bullying and intimidation ... then I am no better than the people I am accusing of giving in to it.

Run-D.M.C. Producer Larry Smith Dead at 63

Larry Smith, producer of some of the most cherished hip-hop records of the Eighties, including Run-D.M.C. 's first two albums, died Thursday at the age of 63. Radio host Combat Jack broke the news on Twitter , writing: "Just spoke to his family. RIP Larry Smith, the original King of Beats who passed away last night." A Queens native, Smith began his career as a session musician and quickly struck up a partnership with Kurtis Blow after playing bass on "Christmas Rappin'."  Smith would continue to play on a number of Blow's tracks, co-writing a few as well, including the MC's breakthrough record, "The Breaks,"  which became the first rap record to be certified gold. Smith then began working with Blow's manager at the time, Russell Simmons.
