Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Blasts O'Reilly: 'It Feels Good' To Blame Muslims (VIDEO)
“It feels good to just blame the religion, but the causes go a lot deeper,” Abdul-Jabbar told host Chuck Todd, responding to O'Reilly's critique of the athlete's recent op-ed for TIME magazine.
"When the Ku Klux Klan burn a cross in a black family’s yard, prominent Christians aren’t required to explain how these aren’t really Christian acts. Most people already realize that the KKK doesn’t represent Christian teachings. That’s what I and other Muslims long for," Abdul-Jabbar wrote in TIME.
Todd rolled a clip of O'Reilly dismissing Abdul-Jabbar's argument.
"Here's what Mr. Abdul-Jabbar is missing," O'Reilly explained. "Much of the Muslim world apparently does not understand the Islamic religion." The Fox host went on to urge Muslim nations to "confront the jihad" the way the FBI "confronted the KKK." Abdul-Jabbar wasn't buying the analogy.
"Well, there is no one body that controls all Muslims," the former NBA star said, pointing out that Muslims in each country, from Asia to the Middle East, aren't united by some kind of Pope as in the Catholic faith.
"Even given that, the Pope [John Paul II] was not able to curtail the Irish Republican Army that was doing terrorist acts in the name of Roman Catholics," he continued.
