Two Women shot at Forest Hills Station by stray gunfire; 2 arrested
Two young Boston men were arrested after they allegedly fired several shots in the Forest Hills Station on the MBTA’s Orange Line Monday afternoon, striking two women, Transit Police said.
“A male armed with a handgun exited the door of the Forest Hills station and fired several gunshots back into the station about 2 p.m.,” said Lieutenant Richard Sullivan, spokesman for the Transit Police
Minutes later, Sullivan said, a 24-year-old woman showed up at the District E-13/Jamaica Plain police station, saying she was grazed in the head area by a bullet.
Boston EMS units treated the woman for injuries that were not life-threatening, Sullivan said.
A 60-year-old woman complained of back pain shortly after the incident, but initially did not realize she had been shot, Sullivan said.
“It’s a loud station,” Sullivan said. “It is possible she didn’t hear the shots.”
This woman remains in an area hospital and sustained serious injuries, Sullivan said.
Sullivan said Transit Police are exploring the possibility that the incident was gang-related. Until the investigation is complete, the names of the two 18-year-old men in custody will not be released, Sullivan said.
He said that it did not appear that the two women knew the shooters.
“We believe the two female victims were not the intended targets,” said Sullivan, who said the shooter was spotted on the MBTA’s surveillance camera system.
He said the gunman had walked out of the exit doors that lead to the Bus 39 berth when he fired shots back into station.
