Alimony reform law in Massachusetts changes the divorce game

Image
Gov. Deval Patrick on September 2011, signed into law an alimony reform bill that resets expectations for alimony payments in Massachusetts. Divorce lawyers in the Bay State now have a new calculus for setting alimony payments, including caps set on clients’ compensation. The winners in the new law, which the Massachusetts senate sent to the governor’s desk last Monday, are payers who get divorced out of short-lived marriages: In marriages shorter than 10 years, the new law limits the longevity of the alimony agreement accordingly. The most straightforward limits in the state’s new alimony law include: In marriages lasting five years or less, divorce alimony is to continue no longer than half the length of the marriage. In marriages six to 10 years long, alimony is capped at 60 percent of the length of the marriage. A schedule will be established by which parties to the alimony agreement may appeal for adjustment. There Are Ways Around the Facebook Block

I've been told by friends who are also on FB that some comments have been made by this person that suggests he has seen some of my posts. If he's blocked me, neither one of us are supposed to see each other's posts. And if he has me blocked, then I cannot block him. How can I stop this from happening? ~Creeper You're right that if he blocked you, you would both be barred from directly interacting with each other, and that his name wouldn't come up in a search. But there are a few technical snags to joining this Block party. Some likely culprits as to why this guy can see some of your posts, according to Faceboo...

Roxbury District Court Judges REFUSES to hear proof of perjury

Image
On August 5, 2011 a judge in Roxbury District Court in Roxbury, Massachusetts refused to hear a defendant's proof of perjury by the plaintiff in a fraudulently-obtained restraining order. The judge stopped the defendant when the defendant said: "I have an offer of proof that the plaintiff committed perjury in obtaining this restraining order and I have a motive". The judge told the defendant that another judge had already dismissed his motion to vacate the restraining order in June of 2010 and further explained that "unless you have new evidence, then that has already been handled". The defendant DID have new evidence, and offered the judge a transcript and a copy of the court recordings where the plaintiff deliberately lied to the court. The lie in question is as follows: COURT: "Is there anything pending in probate court right now?" LIAR/PLAINTIFF: "No, nothing is" COURT: "Nothing at all?" LIAR/PLAINTIFF: "Nothin...
