Do We March and Rally Too Much?

I heard a brother say earlier this year "All this marching for what?" And I didn't bite my tongue when I checked my brother for his involuntary negro spirit. We all know revolution is a process, and most believe the revolution won't be televised. But understand this...if we follow our free speech rights to the letter and make demands LIVE ON TV for the capture of murderers and rapists in our community, we can create AWARENESS. This campaign of consistent outrage at the least bit of violence in our community against our women and children will show and prove that WE ARE NOT SAVAGES who are BUILT FOR DESTRUCTION, MAYHEM and MURDER.

The way anyone would see it, with respects to our SO distorted "stop snitchin" code of misconduct - we're all crime-bound and support murder and violent crimes. Dr. Martin Luther King marched and rallied for years ON LIVE TV. To some, he appeared to be headed nowhere with his complaints against local government and police. But the WORLD saw the news reports and press conferences and the world heard his words and desire for peace and change. The civil rights struggle became a worldwide struggle and even whites began to follow what was right and just.

Rana Jones was murdered in her apartment December 5th. Her civil rights were violated. But because deep down we know the murderer is black, we don't see it that way. Guess a victim of the struggle can't be charged with the same crime as the creators of the violence? I beg to differ. On a global scale, our unwillingness to speak out against these acts of cowardice is showing us as cowards ourselves. How so, you ask? Watch the news reports when one of our community members is murdered. Not once have you seen a rally of people from the community demanding justice or vowing to find the killer. Most you'll hear is "it's a shame."

The time to stand u is NOW. Death is all around us. Sure, you'll REST in peace when you're dead. But dammit, we need to get into believing and fighting for the right to LIVE...in peace. Never underestimate the power of the march and the rally. Sooner or later, the message WILL get attention.

DON'T SPEAK ABOUT IT...BE ABOUT IT
